Russell Rescue Needs Your Help!

Update: April 19, 2019

Sweet little Bridget had her surgery on Wednesday the 17th and is home resting and recovering.  The doctor had to remove 6 teeth and also clean and scrape all the remaining teeth, then stitch up the holes.

Ouch! Bridget also had a lump on her shoulder that had to be removed. You can see her stitches in the photo.  Bridget had the best care in the world from Dr. Mark Schuman, Virginia, Miss Tracy, and Amber. They are a great team and we appreciate them so very much!

They took great care of our little girl! Bridget has had quite a bit of pain, but her foster mom is giving her good meds and lots of TLC. She is doing a lot of sleeping today.  Thank you to the donors who made this life-saving surgery possible. Bridget will now have a chance at a healthy and happy life.

Bridget

This precious little gal is Bridget, and she needs our help!  Bridget is a sweet little senior Jack Russell that has a mouth full of rotten and infected teeth.  As you can see from the photos, her teeth are in very bad condition.

Her back teeth are a greenish/blackish color, and the infection is poisoning her little body.  The vet says that most of her teeth will have to come out and that she will need stitches. Bridget’s bad teeth are causing her pain and need to be fixed as soon as possible!

The vet estimates that the bill for Bridget’s surgery will be around $700.  Bridget is a sweet little gal who deserves a chance at a healthy life.

Ten years ago Robyn pulled a beautiful little rough coat female out of Austin Animal Control. She was about 5 years old and Robyn named her Bridget. A month later we adopted her to Ginger Jones. Ginger had moved from Houston to Wimberly to get away from the bad weather in Houston. We took Bridget to her home. It was a perfect fit. We heard from Ginger several times after that. She loved Bridget and said she was the perfect fit. Three-four years after that she again got in touch with Robyn. She wanted to give Bridget back. She said she had had some health problems and could not care for Bridget. Robyn told her she would take Bridget back, of course. A few days later Ginger said her “caretaker” would take Bridget. She was relieved that Bridget would be cared for by someone she knew and trusted.

Fast forward to April of 2019.

Robyn and I got an email from a shelter manager in San Marcos. Someone had picked up an elderly female JRT about 12-14 years old. A picture was attached. I saw a dirty, dejected, bedraggled dog standing there with her head down and her eyes squinted. About 4 or 5 hours later our FB admin, Heather, sent us a screen shot of a posting from a woman named Cathleen who was looking for information about a dog in the San Marcos shelter that had a microchip that traced back to an address in Wimberly. She posted her phone number.

Robyn called Cathleen. Cathleen told Robyn that she is dedicated to reuniting lost pets and their owners. She works with shelters in the Wimberly/San Marcos area. She wanted to help the senior JRT. After much snooping and checking and digging she had discovered that it was Ginger Jones’ dog. Ginger however had moved back to Houston. Cathleen found Ginger on FB. When Cathleen called Ginger to tell her that Bridget was in the San Marcos Shelter Ginger said, “ Call Robyn Reed.” Ginger was shocked to discover that her “caretaker” had betrayed her. As Ginger had suffered a stroke and was partially paralyzed, she could not care for Bridget. She tried hard to be sure her dog was cared for. She had been sending the woman 50 dollars a month for Bridget’s care! Bridget was never cared for. The poor dog had somehow gotten away from the caretaker and wandered off. That is when she was picked up and taken to the shelter.

Robyn picked Bridget up the next day. She was bathed, fed, and snuggled in. The next day she got her to the vet. Bridget was sick. Her teeth are so horribly infected that she is nauseated and weak. Most of her teeth will have to be pulled.  Note: Bridget is now a Spotlight terrier.

From now on, Bridget will be cared for.

Huge thanks to Cathleen and the shelter manager for going the extra mile for a sweet little old dog. It restores my faith in humanity.

Feb 12 Update

Feb 7 -We got an update on Cappy from his foster mom!

Cappy is doing well. He is starting to put his leg down a little bit, so that is good progress!  He has a good appetite and is eating well and seems to be happy. He has a couple of nurses taking care of him, as you can see from the photo.  He had a follow up at the vet this week because a couple of his sutures were coming out. The vet put staples in to keep the incision together. Other than that, Cappy is doing great!

Update on Cappy!  Cappy had his surgery yesterday!  His foster mom said he is on good pain medication and slept through the night last night.  Today, he is eating and walking, so that’s a good sign. He has had quite a bit of pain, but his foster mom is taking good care of him.  He should be feeling better soon. Thank you so much to those of you who have donated to Cappy’s fundraiser so far. We have raised about $900.  That leaves us $300 short of our goal.

This handsome little guy is Cappy and he needs our help! He is about 2 years old, weighs about 15 pounds, and he is a sweetie!  We rescued him from a shelter in the San Antonio, Texas area very recently. He had been hit by a car and taken to the shelter. Cappy’s foster mom got him to a vet, and it turns out that his hip joint has been knocked out of the socket. This is causing him pain and needs to be fixed as soon as possible!

The vet estimates that the bill for Cappy’s surgery will be around $1200 to get him back up and running. Cappy is a youngster with a long life ahead of him. Update: Oct 7,  2018 – Update on Gracie!  We reached our fundraising goal!  Thank you so much to those of you who donated.  Gracie had her spay surgery and dental cleaning last week.  She also had a bump removed from her rear end. She is recovering nicely and is wearing a cone.

She is on the road to recovery. It won’t be long now before we can start looking for the perfect forever family for Gracie.  Thank you so much for your support! Follow along here for updates.

Gracie’s Story

You will probably remember this little Jack Russell (previous story).  Her name is Gracie. One of our volunteers from Iowa saw her photo on Craigslist back in July.  She suspected Gracie was from a puppy mill, and she was right. Gracie had spent most of her life in a barn birthing puppies.  She is about 7 years old. During that time, her breeder fed her mushy puppy food. As a result, her teeth are a mess. After her journey from Iowa to Texas in July, Gracie has made great strides.  She is safe and sound in a foster home near Sherman, Texas. She is learning how to be loved and cared for properly for the first time in her life.

Gracie is now ready to get her vet work done.  She needs to have a dental cleaning and also needs to be spayed.  When we first got her, she was overweight from eating all the puppy mash, but she is now a healthy 19 pounds and is ready for the rest of her life to start.  We would love to get her vet work done so that we can begin the process of finding Gracie a forever family.
