Russell Rescue, Inc. is proud to announce its new relationship with PetPlan USA, a Philadelphia-based pet insurance company. One might ask why RRI would be working with a pet insurance company. We strongly believe in the health and welfare of all pets throughout their lives. We receive many heart-breaking phone calls from owners seeking help from us when their Jack Russell has been seriously injured or requires a life-time of medical care and they can't afford to provide the necessary emergency life-saving care or ongoing treatments. It is a sad, sad decision on the part of any pet owner who must choose whether their pet lives or dies because of financial concerns. Health insurance for your pet is an important component of responsible, caring ownership. <

Hello, hello hello!! It's me, Old Miss, aka Granny Goose, from the great state of TEXAS!! How is everyone doing? I am so fine! Dr. Justin Bruenig, of Crossroads Vet Hospital, finally OK'd me for dental surgery. Finally! It took a long time because Dr. J, said he didn't want to compromise my health in any way, with me going "under" (under what?) and having surgery. He scraped off lots of icky grey stuff like old cement and pulled three teeth (ow) but left me plenty to eat with. He gave my old teeth back in a little baggy…eeeeuuuwww! Mom was so happy when I got home she cooked me eggs with chicken and rice or dinner. ( Yummm, maybe I should get teeth pulled more often. )

We had 2 rescue events in the past 2 weeks, one in St. Petersburg, which I attended and we raised some money and also more volunteers.

Martina Navratilova (the tennis star!) lives in Sarasota, Florida is a big supporter of dog rescues. She fell in love with one of Marylu's (a RRI volunteer) Jack Russell Terriers.

Let me introduce you to Brody, he's a Russell Rescue dog that came to live with us eight and a half years ago, he's now ten years old.

As with most rescues, he came with a few issues caused mostly because his previous owners just didn't understand the terrier nature and this particular terrier breed is terrier to the nth degree. I think this is the biggest issue and why so many end up in rescue. People just don't understand what terriers are all about. It's not that they're bad dogs, they just ended up in a situation where nobody understood what these dogs need to be happy and productive members of the household.

Rod Dillon, a dedicated Texas RRI volunteer, travelled to the Lamar-Dixon Expo in Gonzales, LA to lend a helping hand to the animals in need. He was also looking for any JRTs in need of assistance/removal from that shelter. A police officer in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, Rod donated his time to help these poor animals. He arrived at the shelter on Sept. 18, 2005.

Melissa Hiatt, or Missy Hyatt as she's known in the wrestling world, is accustomed to facing challenges in the ring. Now she's got one in her back yard. Hyatt is looking for a family to adopt a 4-year-old Jack Russell terrier named Odie that she rescued from a Polk County animal shelter, moments before workers planned to euthanize him.
